Sherwood Forest Hospitals (SFH) We are a multiple award-winning, modern and friendly trust, with a growing reputation for providing outstanding care across our three hospitals and in the Mid Nottinghamshire community. We have a stable leadership team, a clear sense of direction and we are working very closely with our health and local authority partners in the Mid Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Partnership (ICP), to deliver a better future for the population we serve. Our staff and volunteers strive to ensure patients are at the centre of our decision making.

At SFH we value our staff.  We know happy, well supported staff provide high quality care to patients. We want all patients to receive the level of care we expect our friends and family to receive and we are making progress with this aim. We have the highest staff engagement scores across the Midlands and in 2018 the Care Quality Commission assessed us as Good Overall and Outstanding for the Care we provide.

We offer a growing range of staff benefits, excellent training facilities and a modern, well equipped working environment. We are committed to supporting colleagues to maximise their potential and enjoy satisfying careers, underpinned by our staff health and wellbeing strategy; ‘Happy, Healthy, Here’.

If our vision and values appeal to you, now is the time to join #Team SFH.

Are you a motivated and committed individual who wishes to work for an organisation which has successfully turned itself around and is now committed to providing outstanding patient care?  If so then an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive Acute Medical team.

Our Department

If successful you will be one of ten Acute Medical Consultants providing clinical services to the Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and surrounding areas in Nottinghamshire from two trust sites, King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield and Newark Hospital in Newark.

We are a close knit group of Consultants providing high quality clinical care from admission to discharge. There is excellent team working with our Emergency Department as well as the different medical and surgical specialties. We are also very well supported by our Divisional Managers.

Our Acute Medical Model, based at our main hospital site of Kings Mill Hospital, consists of:

  • Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit –2016 winners of the AEC Network Continuous Improvement award
  • Emergency Assessment Unit (40 beds) - maximum stay 48 hours
  • Short Stay Unit (40 beds) - maximum stay 72 hours

Our Trust

Our hospital is situated close to the Derbyshire Peak District and Sherwood Forest.  We are within easy reach of Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham being only 7 miles from the M1. A mainline rail service operates from Newark to London taking 1 hour 10 minutes.

Our Medical Director and Trust Board are dedicated to achieving an engaged medical workforce that is empowered to drive the Trust forward and deliver outstanding care to our patients.

The Trust was a winner of the HSJ 2017 Value in Healthcare Awards. The Emergency Department /Flow team and the Neck Of Femur Fracture Team have both been shortlisted in the Emergency, Urgent and Trauma care category. The Sepsis Work Group was shortlisted for the National Patient Safety Award as the “Best Patient Safety Improvement Team” 2017. Significant contributions were made to all achievements by the Acute Medicine Team. The team also won the 2016 AEC Network Continuous Improvement Award and we are now looking for additional dedicated, enthusiastic and committed Consultant Acute Physicians who embrace innovation and will inspire us to continue our journey to achieve “outstanding”.

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
