Sherwood Forest Hospitals (SFH) We are a multiple award-winning, modern and friendly trust, with a growing reputation for providing outstanding care across our three hospitals and in the Mid Nottinghamshire community. We have a stable leadership team, a clear sense of direction and we are working very closely with our health and local authority partners in the Mid Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Partnership (ICP), to deliver a better future for the population we serve. Our staff and volunteers strive to ensure patients are at the centre of our decision making.
At SFH we value our staff. We know happy, well supported staff provide high quality care to patients. We want all patients to receive the level of care we expect our friends and family to receive and we are making progress with this aim. We have the highest staff engagement scores across the Midlands and in 2018 the Care Quality Commission assessed us as Good Overall and Outstanding for the Care we provide.
We offer a growing range of staff benefits, excellent training facilities and a modern, well equipped working environment. We are committed to supporting colleagues to maximise their potential and enjoy satisfying careers, underpinned by our staff health and wellbeing strategy; ‘Happy, Healthy, Here’.
If our vision and values appeal to you, now is the time to join #Team SFH.
Are you a motivated and committed individual who wishes to work for an organisation which has successfully turned itself around and is now committed to providing outstanding patient care? If so then an exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive Emergency Department.
If successful you will be part of team that has been rated outstanding for ‘well-led’ by the CQC providing clinical services to the Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and surrounding areas in Nottinghamshire from two trust sites, King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield and Newark Hospital in Newark.
Our department has undergone a complete renovation tripling the size of our department and currently approximately 98,000 new patients are seen each year.
We are a level 2 trauma unit and actively contribute to the regional trauma network. We have a full complement of substantive nursing staff and support services including advanced clinical practitioners and emergency nurse practitioners. We fully support our doctors in training and have implemented a CESR training programme for middle grades to grow our own workforce.
Our hospital is situated close to the Derbyshire Peak District and Sherwood Forest. We are within easy reach of Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham being only 7 miles from the M1. A mainline rail service operates from Newark to London taking 1 hour 10 minutes.
Our Medical Director and Trust Board are dedicated to achieving an engaged medical workforce that is empowered to drive the Trust forward and deliver outstanding care to our patients.
The Trust is engaged in proactively monitoring the flow of patients across the hospitals site to ensure the Emergency department is able to meet the four hour wait target and to ensure the quality of patient care.
The Trust has developed and implemented, in partnership with Primary Care providers, a single front door system which includes a co-located primary care 24/7 which has reduced ED attendance by 20%. We have many services at the front door including a discharge support team, therapy services and frailty team. We have a fully functioning Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit which has reduced the Trust admission rate.

While performing clinical duties in ED the post holder will be expected to operate at Tier 4 level/bleep holder, being the senior doctor in charge of the department overnight, supervising the junior staff, liaising closely with the nurse in charge and senior streaming appropriate patients to expedite CT scans, x-rays and urgent treatment. The post holder will be expected to act as trauma team leader.
